Privacy Policy

This page explains what information the TravelWithSilentMonk website (travelwithsilentmonk.com) collects and how it is used. We keep this as small as we can.

Browsing the site

You can read all guides without creating an account. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. We do not run advertising trackers. We use Google Search Console to see how the site appears in search, which uses aggregated data and does not identify you to us.

The site saves a few preferences in your own browser (for example, your chosen passport for visa information and your preferred currency). These stay on your device and are not sent to us.

Community features (tips and hangouts)

You can read community posts without signing in. To post, you sign in with Google. When you sign in we receive your name, email address and a Google account identifier. We use these to run your account, to prevent spam and abuse, and to contact you about your posts if needed.

• What is public: the text of your post (place, city, review, rating, and for hangouts the plan details), the date, and your first name only. Your email address is never shown publicly.
• Where it is stored: posts and accounts are stored with Supabase, a database provider. Sign-in is handled by Google. Their own privacy policies apply to their services.
• How long: we keep posts until you ask us to remove them or we remove them under our Terms. Past hangouts are removed from public view after the event date.
• Your choices: you can ask us to delete your posts or your account at any time by emailing travelwithsilentmonk@gmail.com.

Please do not post phone numbers, home addresses or other private details in community posts.

Affiliate and external links

Some links go to other websites (booking sites, airlines, SIM providers and so on). Those sites have their own privacy practices. Links marked "Book now" may be affiliate links; see our Affiliate Disclosure. When you click one, the other site may set its own cookies or track the referral. We also load a script from our affiliate network, Travelpayouts, which may set cookies or use identifiers to track referrals and attribute commissions.

Children

The site is not directed at children, and community features are for people aged 18 and over.
